Theme – Bridging the Gap
The CCPA 2011 National Conference theme is entitled “Bridging the Gap”. In a general sense, this theme encompasses a ‘bringing together’ of ideology, theory and practice that strive to best meet the needs of clients our profession works with on a daily basis. More specifically, the bridging theme could suggest pathways to working collaboratively with other professionals, to skillfully employing a combination of theoretical orientations and approaches, and to thoughtfully expanding our multicultural competencies to better meet our client’s cultural identity and world view. Moreover, this theme might also relate to how we, as counsellors and psychotherapists, attempt to connect various aspects of ourselves—the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual—as an important means of self-care. The “bridges” or relationships that we build with our clients and the curative pathways that we take are not limited in scope and are a significant means of healing in their personal growth journey.
